Post-Election Resources: An Emergency Blog
I’m not going off on my usual spiel about anything today. The fascist is back in the White House and that’s far more urgent than anything I could talk about. In just a few short months multiple groups of people across the US will likely have their rights taken away, in fact, it’s already started.
So, here are some organisations you can share and donate to so people can get the help they need:
Reproductive Rights and Aid
Everyone should have the right to choose.
National Network of Abortion Funds
The NNAF is a network of grassroots organisations that support people seeking abortion access. They believe that every reproductive decision people make should be safe and informed. You can either find a specific fund or donate to the organisation as a whole.
SisterSong Women of Colour Reproductive Justice Collective is a Southern US group comprised of women from minority communities. They are working to improve policies and systems that impact the reproductive rights of marginalised communities.
Planned Parenthood advocates for the right to affordable birth control, abortions and other reproductive care. They also provide vital education about sex and reproductive rights.
LGBTQIA+ Rights and Aid
As a queer person, with many queer friends in America, this is especially important to me.
The Trevor Project provides crisis services and peer support for young LGBT+ people. They also conduct research which goes to policymakers and other professionals who effect LGBT+ youths.
Run by and for trans people, Trans Lifeline offers direct emotional and financial support to struggling trans people. They also provide grants to help trans people change their ID.
Both the Trevor Project’s and Trans Lifeline’s suicide hotlines are currently overwhelmed with calls after the election results.
The Okra Project provides mutual aid to Black trans people in the US. They bring home-cooked, culturally specific meals to struggling members of the Black trans community. They also support housing efforts and offer mental wellbeing support.
Many queer couples are currently fundraising to elope so they are legally married in case the law recognising same-sex marriage is overturned next year. There are plenty of GoFundMes you can contribute to online. There are also trans people fundraising to get themselves somewhere safe. Here’s two to get you started:
Evie Parkour’s fund - a fund to help two trans women escape Florida
Florida Doll Defense - a fund to help equip trans women in Florida with self-defence kits
Donate if you can.
Immigration Rights and Aid
Everyone deserves to live without fear.
The Refuge and Immigration Centre for Education and Legal Services provides free or low-cost legal and social services to immigrant children, families and refugees.
The largest immigrant youth-led organisation in the US, United We Dream creates welcoming spaces for young immigrants, opens doors to education and works to stop deportations.
The American Immigration Council promotes humane and fair immigration policies and advocates for justice through research and legal services.
Palestine Aid🍉
Go to protests if it’s safe. Be loud about the injustice.
MAP provides access to essential health services and helps build vital knowledge and skills among Palestinians. They also respond rapidly with aid and assistance during times of crisis, like the current genocide.
The best way to give aid to Palestine is to donate directly to GoFundMes. In this document you’ll find direct links to help, as well as places to donate to give aid to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan, Haiti, Yemen, Hawai’i and Lebanon, all of which are currently facing a crisis. Here’s some links to get you started:
AlGhandour Family fund - a fund to help the AlGhandour family rebuild their life. One of my friends has ‘adopted’ this family so it would be amazing to get some donations on this one!
Richard Pierrin fund - a fund to help photojournalist Richard Perrin rebuild his life in the US after he fled Haiti for his own safety.
Check out Operation Olive Branch for a list of families you can donate to, businesses to support and mutual aid non-profits to donate to.
This is quite literally a matter of life or death for so many people, so please donate and share where you can.
